Sheridan Man Sentenced to Prison for Child Pornography Charge

A sentencing hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court for a Sheridan man charged with possessing child pornography. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On August 2nd of last year, 33-year-old Kyle Reuter was arrested by officers with the Sheridan Police Department for having child pornography on his cellular phone. At a hearing in early February, Reuter, pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded “guilty” to the charge of Sexual Exploitation of Children- Possession of Child Pornography.
At a sentencing hearing Thursday, District Court Judge John Fenn accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Reuter to not less than 7 and not more than 9 years in prison. Reuter will receive credit for 159 days of time served.
The sentence is a mandatory minimum sentence because Reuter has two prior convictions of similar nature. Judge Fenn also ordered Reuter to pay $325 in various court costs and fees and determined that due to the sentence, the defendant would be unable to pay the $500 attorney fee. Reuter must also continue to register as a convicted sex offender.
