Dentist Gives COVID Update to Board of Health

Local Dentist Dr. Brian Cotant, also a member of the Johnson County Board of Health, gave an update on where the dental industry is with COVID-19 preparedness in the state.
Dr. Cotant said his office and most in the industry opened back up to patients state-wide on May 1st, with some in the state deciding to stay open through the early closure period this spring, and others choosing to stay closed a bit longer, based on each individual’s comfort level.
He said the state Dental Association worked together with the University of Wyoming to acquire face shields and distribute them to dentists free of charge throughout the state.
Masks were also ordered early on but a problem surfaced there which he said was eventually remedied.
Some dental offices have changed how they see patients and how their waiting rooms are utilized, while others are operating on a “business as usual” mentality, with the state not mandating at this time how it should be handled, although there have been recommendations from the state.
