Sheridan’s city council gave first-reading approval to a zoning change and, in a related matter, approved vacating a portion of the East College right-of-way earlier this week.

The ordinance would rezone just under 10.5 acres in the Cottonwood Subdivision from R-2 residential to R-3 and R-4 residential.

Sheridan Community Development Director Wade Sanner said the R-4 zoning will allow manufactured homes and mobile homes in the area. The property is on the northeast corner of College Avenue and Carrington Street.

Sanner said the related street vacation is to provide some additional lots for Cottonwood developer Brett Sayer.

The council heard from one resident in the area who said he was concerned about the amount of traffic, in particular speeding, and dust from a gravel street in the area.

The council unanimously approved the ordinance on first reading. Two more readings will be required for the zoning change to become final. The council also approved vacating the portion of East College Street.

In another matter, following a public hearing during which no one spoke, the council approved the transfer of a retail liquor license to Verdello Inc. That approval was also unanimous.
