Executive Director of the Sheridan County YMCA Liz Cassiday was cautious but optimistic regarding the YMCA summer camp programs this year.

Cassiday and her team reorganized camps and developed good hygiene and distancing practices using the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Wyoming Department of Health as a baseline.

By instituting these practices and procedures the YMCA was able to host 297 children – sponsoring 22% – at various camps this year without any child contracting COVID-19.

The YMCA operated two to three camps per week for the last 12 weeks. Although measures were in place, Cassiday felt that the true spirit of the camps didn’t change.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Cassiday attributed the success to much of the preplanning, instituting practical measures.

With summer camping wrapping up, the YMCA is currently planning after school programs and the choir, which Cassiday said will proceed even if the choir must sing together over Zoom.
