Sheridan Memorial Hospital To Acquire Another Da Vinci Surgical System

The demand and use of a robotic surgical system at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital has grown so high, that the hospital is planning to acquire another one.

About 3 years ago, the Hospital started using a Da Vinci Surgical System, which uses a minimally invasive surgical approach.

Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty says compared to regular surgeries, the system decreases the amount of bruising and bleeding that a patient may experience.

He adds the system has been used many times and it has gone over so well with surgeons, that it’s not always available, hence the Hospital Board of Trustees recently decided to acquire another via a lease.

“We can only do so many cases on it a day or in a week and we were getting a little bit of a backlog for our surgeons who want to be able to utilize that technology in their surgeries, so if it wasn’t available they would have to do an open case, and the preferred method would be a robotics case.”

McCafferty adds he anticipates the second Da Vinci Surgical System to be ready for use in the next few months.
