National Police Appreciation Week 2024 is Sunday, May 12 to Saturday, May 18. Sheridan Police Chief Travis Koltiska read a proclamation during the most recent Sheridan City Council meeting proclaiming May 12 through May 18 as Police Appreciation Week in the City of Sheridan, and May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Chief Koltiska offered these words shortly after reading the proclamation.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. The presidential proclamation also designates that each year, the calendar week in which May 15 occurs or precedes, shall be proclaimed as Police Appreciation Week in recognition of the service given by the men and women who day and night, stand guard in our communities.
