Ron RichterThanks in part to strategic partnerships and generous donations from businesses and individuals statewide, Food Bank of Wyoming distributed nearly 10.8 million pounds of food to those in need last year. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has more.
There are many Wyoming citizens confronted with the difficult choice between buying enough food or paying rent. Community members can help support neighbors seeking food assistance by making an online donation to the Food Bank of Wyoming’s Annual Fund. Food Bank of Wyoming Director of Development Jill Stillwagon said at a time when one in nine adults and one in eight children in Wyoming are experiencing food insecurity, donations to their Annual Fund helps them purchase more food so they can reach as many people across Wyoming as possible. She said that ultimately, $1 helps provide enough food for three meals because of the way they are able to leverage the power of donated food.
Stillwagon said that when a donation is made to Food Bank of Wyoming, 100 percent of those funds stay in Wyoming and 96 cents of every dollar goes directly into programs that address food insecurity. Food Bank of Wyoming collaborates with more than 150 Hunger Relief Partners across Wyoming, including food pantries, community centers, and other organizations, to meet local food needs. Food Bank of Wyoming also partners with programs that distribute food specifically to kids and older adults as well as 19 Mobile Pantries across Wyoming, which is all made possible through financial contributions.
