Volunteers and contractors have shown interest in wanting to help rebuild a Sheridan house that was partially torn down during a manhunt, and many are eager to know how soon the work can start.

Last week, the house which is located on the southwest corner of Sheridan Avenue and 7th Street, was partially torn down by law enforcement with an excavator, in order to get to and/or flush out a wanted man who had barricaded himself inside.

The residents that originally lived inside the house were able to get out, but now the house is uninhabitable and will have to be demolished and rebuilt.

Jeremiah Morley is a general contractor and organizer of the volunteer rebuilding effort and says any insurance companies involved with the house have to conduct their business first, before any physical work can start and it is unknown how long that will take.

He adds things didn’t seem to be that bad at first and he doesn’t want the house to remain like a rotten open wound, any longer than it needs to be.

“I grew up right on the same block and have a lot of friends that live there still and when I seen the pictures of the building at first, it wasn’t that bad. It looked repairable and so I just said ‘we can go just patch up windows and do this and that,’ but it turned into a full build so that’s where we’re at now.”

Several Sheridan City Administrators have said they will talk to the city council to see about getting the fees for building permits and waste disposal and recycling waived.
