Captain of the Sheridan Police Department, Tom Ringley, made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss National Teen Driving Safety Week.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States.
This year, National Teen Driving Safety Week is Oct. 15-21. The weeklong observation gives parents and guardians an opportunity and a reminder to review safety and good driving habits with their kids. Ringley said it is the parents and guardians who are ultimately responsible for their children’s actions behind the wheel.

Speeding and distracted driving – using cell phones, interacting with friends in the car, paying too much attention to the automobile’s technology – are the most frequent problems the SPD encounters with teen drivers.
When asked what he would say to the residents of Sheridan to help make the streets safer for teen drivers and pedestrians, the SPD Captain said we should all pay attention and slow down because lives do depend on it.
