The summer traveling season has ended, but not before more people visited the nation’s First National Park, compared to previous years.

The park reports there were more than 846,389 recreational visits in August 2023.

That’s up 45% compared to August of last year (582,211 visits), when the park was still partially closed due to the historic flooding.

Numbers for August of this year are also up 3% compared to August of 2019 (820,006 visits), which was before the covid pandemic started.

As of the end of August, the park has had 3,313,244 visits for the year, which is up 36% from this time last year (2,437,607 visits) and up 6% from 2019 (3,114,697 visits).

The park says in September, boating services on Yellowstone Lake and various campgrounds start their seasonal closure, and some animals will start to prepare for their upcoming winter hibernation.

Various roads within the park will start closing for the upcoming winter season next month.
