Construction workers will soon start work on a block of Main Street in downtown Sheridan that was originally planned to be worked on next year.
WYDOT has announced that beginning sometime next week (August 21st-25th), Main Street between Brundage and Loucks Streets will close as part of the downtown construction project.
The exact date is to be determined, but when it happens, crews will also open the stretch of Main Street between Mandel and Alger Streets.
The intersection of Main and Loucks Streets will remain open and won’t be worked on until construction crews restart work in April of next year, at which time the remaining 2 blocks of the construction project between Loucks and Coffeen Avenue will close.
Laura Dalles of WYDOT says work along Main Street has been going well as of late, and the construction workers want to press their momentum.
“The project is ahead of schedule and so our contractor is wanting to add an additional block to the project, which is great news because that’s going to lessen the impact and the length of the project for next spring when we can come back in April, so it’s a win-win for everybody I think. When we went and visited one-on-one with the business owners in that next block, they were like, great, super, let’s get ‘er done, so they’re very supportive of it.”
Closing the next block of Main Street this year could have an impact on September’s Third Thursday event, but WYDOT says there is a possibility that Main Street between Alger Street and Grinnell Plaza could be finished and reopened by that time.
