After tabling a decision during their last regular meeting, the Buffalo City Council, at their meeting Tuesday evening, voted to match funds already allocated by the Johnson County Commission for a new fire panel for the Bomber Mountain Civic Center.

The council approved $34,540, with council members Myra Camino and Mike Madden voting against and councilmen Scott Madsen and John Camino voting for it.

Mayor Shane Schrader cast the deciding vote for the funding.

As explained at an earlier meeting by KBJ Economic Development Joint Powers Board member Tom Knapp, the State Fire Marshal is requiring replacement of the fire panel at Bomber Mountain and presented the council with two proposals to replace the panels.

The first was a bare-minimum replacement of the panel for roughly $30,000 and the second an added upgrade to the panel that would make it compliant in the future as well, at a cost of roughly $69,000.

The fire marshal gave the board until mid-August to get the fire panels approved to get them into compliance, or face shutdown of a major portion of the building.
