Students at Sheridan College that are interested in getting into nursing or a start in some other medical field will soon have more room and new equipment to use.

Construction of the new Perkins Health Science Center, which is connected to the Whitney Building and new dentistry wing is nearly complete.

Work included adding on 23-thousand feet of new space and renovation of about 7-thousand feet of existing space.

College President Doctor Walter Tribley says the center will have more classrooms, updated technology and more simulation rooms, for students to work with.

He adds it’s possible that medical facilities could use the center for specialty training and/or partner with the college and hold training courses, however first and foremost the new space is for the students and faculty.

“The facility is matching the quality of our program, or at least it’s getting there and so that’s the main result here is the quality of the experience is going to be a notch different or better if you will, because of the building. It meets the passion and the desire and the expertise of both the students and the faculty that work in here.”

The project cost a little more than $12-million and Doctor Tribley says he anticipates classes within the new center will start this upcoming fall semester.
