cvannoyOn March 8, a group of parents and students who are working towards bringing back an Agricultural Program and an FFA Chapter into the Big Horn Schools, held a meeting at Big Horn High School.
The meeting opened in the cafeteria with root beer floats served to all, several displays promoting FFA, including an FFA Jacket from one of the last years that Big Horn School had an FFA program. After the root beer floats, the attendees moved to the auditorium for a presentation on the benefits of an Ag and FFA Program.
Jana Fraley, one of the organization of the event, had this to say
She said that there are an increasing number of students who have voiced an interest in taking classes in agriculture as well as becoming members of an FFA chapter within their own school. There are currently FFA programs in all the other schools in Sheridan County, including one in Tongue River, which is in the same school district as Big Horn.
Fraley said the meeting is two-fold.
A good crowd of students and parent attended the meeting, and there were two zoom presentations from the state FFA officers, Calista Dugger, state reporter and Stacy Broda, State FFA Advisor. Kaya Pehringer, Wyoming FFA State treasurer, joined the presentation in person, and talked about how FFA contributed to her life and future career.
Two members of the John B. Kendrick FFA Chapter, Levi and Amy Peldo attended the program, helped to serve the root beer floats, and talked about FFA. Amy is a junior at Sheridan High School, and said she likes learning about agricultural and enjoys showing her sheep and cattle. She spoke to the group about some of the benefits she feels she gained from FFA.
Levi Peldo shows cattle with FFA, and said he enjoyed his time with friends in the organization.
