The SCLT History Volunteer Meet-Up was held on Saturday, March 4, with 22 people in attendance. Carrie Edinger, SCLT Historical Program Manager organized the meet-up because of the quick growth with the history program in the last three years.
She gave a brief presentation on the growth of the history program. The SCLT history program includes historic preservation easements, preservation projects and the Explore History program held at The Hub on Smith and the Tongue River Valley Community Center in Dayton.
She talked about what topics that community members at the meeting expressed interest in.
The end of her presentation was about the upcoming volunteer opportunities for finishing projects and being a walking tour guide.
Edinger has received many requests for the summer schedule of the Big Goose Creek walking tour and is looking forward to offering more opportunities for community members to experience these local history sites.
She said she also plans to add another history walking tour this summer, which is part of the beginning section of the SCLT Soldier Ridge Trail off of 5th Street. There will be seven sites along the trail that have historical information about the Bozeman Trail, Soldier Creek Road and the stagecoach route, the Sibley Scout Fight, Plains Indian Tribes background, and into settlement related to homesteading and ranching history.
Participants at the meet-up were asked to fill out an interest and skills form that went along with her presentation.
She added that it is great to see how much interest there is in supporting local and regional history.
