Council Considers DDA, Cemetery Ordinances

The Sheridan City Council met for their regularly scheduled business meeting Tuesday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

The Council, on a 5-1 vote, approved first reading of ordinance #2208, which amends the City’s current ordinances pertaining to the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. During a presentation prior to the Council’s vote on the ordinance, City Attorney Brendon Kerns provided a bit of history on how the City has previously managed the cemetery.

Kerns said that there has been a historic problem with ownership transfers with the cemetery, which has resulted in inaccurate records.

Kerns said that the policies and procedures for the cemetery will be presented to the Council for their consideration when the cemetery ordinance is up for third and final reading. Other business from the meeting included first reading approval by the Council of an ordinance amending the current ordinance for the Downtown Development Authority. A letter from the local firefighters union requesting that collective bargaining begin was accepted by the Council. The Council also approved collective bargaining rules and regulations and set March 2nd for the date for both sides to meet and begin negotiations on a new agreement.
