Ron RichterA special joint-meeting of the Sheridan County Commissioners and the Sheridan City Council was held this week in Council Chambers at Sheridan City Hall. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
In June of 2021, both the City of Sheridan and Sheridan County received American Rescue Plan Act funds. City Administrator Stu McCrae, at a special joint-meeting between the two governing bodies Wednesday night, said the Sheridan City Council and Sheridan County Commissioners each set aside $1.5 million in ARPA funds for the purpose of trying to find a solution for attainable housing. In February a Housing Land Trust Committee was formed to evaluate the feasibility of using a housing land trust to address attainable housing. City Councilman Aaron Linden was on the committee and says that a Housing Land Trust through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity is what’s being proposed.
Linden explains how a Housing Land Trust will differ from what Habitat is already doing.
The City Council and County Commissioners will soon be considering a resolution that would establish the Sheridan County Attainable Housing Council.
Linden said the City Council will be discussing the resolution to establish the Sheridan County Attainable Housing Council at Monday night’s study session. The Council is expected to officially consider the resolution at their first regularly scheduled business meeting in November.
