The Department of Wyoming Workforce Services will conduct the Sheridan Career Fair, beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. on April 20, at the Golden Dome and virtually from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 21.

According to Sheridan Department of Workforce Services Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist Sally Thomas, the annual Sheridan Career Fair is a partnership between the Department of Workforce Services, Sheridan VA Medical Center, and Sheridan College to bring local businesses and job seekers together during the spring hiring process.

“This year we have over 40 employers attending, ranging from manufacturing to healthcare and retail,” Thomas said. “The job fair is a great opportunity for job seekers to get facetime with potential employers, something not always available in the hiring process. We’re especially excited this year to offer a virtual career fair option. Job seekers will be able to chat with employers from anywhere, despite the weather. We get calls all the time from employers asking ‘where are the workers?’ Job seekers are here, but their skills just aren’t matching up to the necessary qualifications.”

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Thomas spoke on how training programs have been developed with the help of new state funding, recently made available to assist employees gain new skill sets.

Sheridan Media will have more stories concerning the programs and grants offered by the Department of Wyoming Workforce Services in future stories.

Employers could always train people themselves. That’s what the trades have done for hundreds of years, with the exception of around here. It seems like companies in Sheridan forget that they can do that. Example: can’t find experienced sheet metal workers? Train some, like most companies do in America….
