Aaron PalmerA rumored plan for Buffalo city leaders to remove trees on Main Street downtown prompted a number of residents to voice their opposition to removing them at the last city council meeting.
During the Public Comment section of the meeting agenda, a number of people spoke about the importance of trees not only for aesthetics and shade, but also to aid in tourism and visitors to the downtown corridor.
Paul and Laura Schuman, who own Heartland Tree Care, also volunteered to prune and care for the trees free of charge, as an incentive for the city to keep the trees downtown.
Mayor Shane Schrader spoke about the rumor, saying the city has no plans to remove the trees, except for dead or diseased ones that need to be removed.
The mayor said if trees need to be removed for whatever reason, the plan is to replace them with new ones.
