The Big Horn Rams Boys Basketball team almost got themselves out of a hole, and then the hole got deeper.
Trailing most of the game, BH would cut the deficit to 1 early in the 4th quarter, but could not get over the hump, as Pine Bluffs would pull away to win 52-41 in the 2A Boys State Championship Game.
Junior Toby Schons led the Rams with 15 points, while Caleb Gibson contributed 10.
Stu Lerwick of PB had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Ryan Fornstrom put in 17 points of his own.
The stat that made the difference was that Pine Bluffs was able to get to the free throw line.
The Hornets were 16-for-23 from the charity stripe for 69.6%, while BH was 3-for-3.
Big Horn started the season with a record of 7-8, then won 9 of the next 11 before the state championship game.
The team finishes the season with a record of 16-11.
