Tongue River/Big Horn 2025 State Basketball Tournament Recap – Day 1

The Tongue River Lady Eagles advanced to the semi-finals easily, while both Big Horn teams lost in the first round, but Rams put up quite a fight.
Tongue River Girls: Offensive rebounds (22-10), second chance points (22-1), turnovers (13-22) and points off of turnovers (31-2) made the difference as the Lady Eagles cruised to a 64-31 win in the first round vs. Big Piney.
Afton Cummins scored 15 points, McKinlee Scammon scored 13 points, while Afton Cummins (15 points 11 rebounds) and Chaney Reish (10 points and 11 rebounds) each had a double-double.
BP also ended going 0-8 on their 3-point tries.
TR next plays in the semi-finals on Friday (March 7th) at 5:30pm vs. Thermopolis, at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
Big Horn Boys: Although both teams had problems making their free throws near the end of regulation, that’s what it came down to in overtime, as the Rams fell against Wyoming Indian 65-63.
BH had a better shooting percentage for the game (51.2% vs. 36.5%), outrebounded WIHS (38-29), and won the bench battle (23-9), but the Chiefs got to the free throw line more often (21 of 38 vs. 14 of 22), won the turnover battle (14-28), and scored more points off of turnovers (28-16).
Caleb Adsit, Carter Gray and Chase Garber scored 15 points each for Big Horn.
Adsit had a double-double for the game, as he also grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Rams next play in the consolation round on Friday (March 7th) at 1:30pm vs. Wright, at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
Big Horn Girls: The Lady Rams dug themselves into a 15-4 hole after 1 quarter, closed the deficit to 2 in the 2nd, but then Thermopolis would recover and pulled away 61-40.
BH only shot 28.3% for the game, compared to 47.4% for the opposition.
Maggie Brogdon led Big Horn with 11 points.
