Sheridan HS’s Becca Oetken Wins 3rd Girls Wrestling State Title: Wyoming’s first 3-time girls wrestling state champion comes from Sheridan High School.
Becca Oetken concluded her high school career with a 37-1 record and a 5-1 decision in the finals of the 190 pound weight bracket, to win her third state wrestling crown.
When girls varsity wrestling started in Wyoming in December of 2022, she says she joined the team, because it gave her something new to do, not knowing what it was eventually going to lead to.
Oetken will soon compete for North Central College, located in Naperville, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago.
The Sheridan girls finished this season as state runners-up.
Bronc Wrestlers Keegan Rager and Kelten Crow Complete Undefeated State Championship Seasons: Two Sheridan boys won state championships in undefeated fashion.
One of them was junior Keegan Rager at 165 pounds.
In the championship match, the score was tied at 1 and the match appeared to be destined for overtime, but then he got a takedown with 7 seconds to go to get the win.
Rager says he had not planned to milk the drama that way, but it won him the championship.
The other undefeated Bronc wrestler was senior Kelten Crow who won his 2nd state championship in 3 years.
He won his championship match in comfortable fashion by a score of 7-1.
Having an unblemished record was an interesting challenge, but Crow says he wasn’t boasting about it during the season, because he was motivated after finishing 4th last year.
The Sheridan boys placed 6th in the 4A team standings at the state meet.
