John Donald Hall was born on October 8, 1928, at a Tie Camp on Sourdough Creek in the Big Horn Mountains above Buffalo to Joseph and Hazel Hall.  He was delivered by Dr. W. J. Knebel who made the trip up the mountain but got there when the party was over. Don grew up and went to school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1946.  After high school, he attended the University of Wyoming where he played basketball.  After one year of college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Alabama and Alaska.  He was married June 27, 1952 in Buffalo to Phyllis Green and they made their home on the family ranch in Buffalo.  After they were married Don had one more year in the military.  He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1953 and returned to Buffalo where they made their home. Don and Phyllis lived, ranched, and raised their family on their ranch northwest of Buffalo which was started by his parents Joe and Hazel.  Don performed day-to-day work on the ranch until he was 88 years old.  He continued living on the ranch until his death.  Don had a passion for ranching and loved every day he spent on the ranch.

Don served on the Johnson County School Board for ten years.  He was a 50-year member of the American Legion and a Johnson County 4-H Leader for many years.  He was a Johnson County Commissioner from 1994 until 2002 and was the chairman of the Johnson County Solid Waste District.  Don was also a very active member and leader of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Hall of Buffalo; one son, Dave Hall and his wife Joyce of Buffalo; three daughters, Diane Memmer and her husband Splint, and Nancy Wold all of Buffalo, and Janet Czapla and her husband Dave of Gillette, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Marion Gilson, Jane Blum and one infant sister.
