Elsa M. Genung, 93, of Sheridan passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2021 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. During her time on earth, she touched many lives and was loved by so many.

Elsa was born August 29th, 1928 in Santurce, Puerto Rico to José Madera and Elena Font. She was the youngest of five children. At the age of 15, she left Puerto Rico to attend university in New York and later became a Medical Laboratory Technician at a local hospital. It was there that she met Lyndly Genung, an artist whom was attending seminary school in New Jersey. They were married August 6th, 1955. For their honeymoon, they drove and camped across the country and made their home in Oakland, CA. Upon establishing themselves there, Elsa’s main occupation became taking care of the home and their six children. We may be biased, but she was the best at it.

On their cross-country journey, Elsa and Lyn stopped in Sheridan for a short time. They both loved the area and always wanted to move back. In May of 1995, they fulfilled their wishes and made their home here in Sheridan.

In her free time, she played on a bowling league, which she very much enjoyed. She also enjoyed crocheting, taking long walks, going to garage sales, and cooking/baking. She loved baking treats and delivering them to local businesses and no matter what you could never leave her house without a plate of food.

Elsa is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Gilbert, René, Irma, and Judith, her husband Lyndly, and her daughters Elena and Mary.

She will be greatly missed by her four surviving children Michael, Joseph, Frederick, and Anne- all of Sheridan; grandchildren Michelle Craig of Sheridan, Rebecca Brandjord (Jordan) of Sheridan, and Joshua Genung of Grants Pass, OR; and her great-grandsons AJ, Nolan, Bridger, and Max.

Services are pending at this time.
