John (Jack) Henry Harrison of Sheridan WY, passed away suddenly on a trip to his land in Montana. Jack was born on November 28, 1953, in Streator, IL to Robert and Geraldine Harrison. He graduated from Streator High School in 1971. After high school, he received basketball scholarships at Parkland College, Sheridan College, and East Texas State University. Jack fell in love with Sheridan and decided to head back to make it his home and start a family.  In 1977, he embarked on a 30-plus year career as a conductor for Burlington Northern Railroad.  He was active with youth basketball, coaching several teams, and was a die-hard sports fan.  After retiring, Jack worked part-time at the YMCA, tending to his animals throughout the years and enjoyed working in his garden.  Like his brother, Jodie always said “Jack never met a stranger”, he was always extremely personable and usually joking around.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George (Jodie). He is survived by his wife Julie and daughter Hilary Rose, nephews Joel and Jason Harrison, niece Heather Lange and their children. Jack had several great friends and acquaintances, and will surely be missed because of his larger than life personality, you always knew when he was nearby.  He will forever be remembered for his quiet random acts of kindness and his strong love for his family.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack can be made to the YMCA “Give Your Heart to a Child” or The Food Group.   Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

My father helped train Jack at BN. Jack was a fantastic coworker and my father enjoyed his company. I played ball with Jack at the YMCA old “Rawhide” days and noon ball. And to go full circle, Jack coached my daughter at Holy Name a few years back. He was a fun coach and the girls adored him. We lost a fine man and the sun wont be quite as bright. Blessings my friend and to your lovely family.

Whether at the depot, YMCA, Holy Name gym, or Sheridan College baskertball game, Jack could be found chatting up someone. His sense of humor and enthusiasm will be missed.

I Didn’t know Jack very long, however my two daughters attended the YMCA every day and had the most genuine unique relationship with Jack. He always made their day and enjoyed joking and teasing them as they did back. The girls talked of Jack frequently and WILL MISS HIM GREATLY!!!

This is such a tragedy and I was deeply affected when I heard this sad news. Although I have not lived in Streator for many decades I always kept up with Jackie and his family through my brothers, Steve and Bob. Every time he returned to Streator I would speak to him on the phone, even as recently as this past January. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

jack will be missed and remembered by many people. I grew up with Jack. We were neighborhood friends. Went to kindergarten with him at Grant School, went to elementary school with him at St. Mary’s and graduated with him at Streator Township High School. I was anticipating to visit with him next year at our 50 year reunion. Julie and Hilary will be in my prayers.

Surely you don’t know us but Jackie was my next door neighbor on West Stanton Street. My husband lived across the street so we both knew a Jackie. Jodie and I were in the same class at St. Mary’s School and SHS. The last time Jackie was home, he stopped in the VFW to see us. We enjoyed talking about the old neighborhood. Jackie seemed to be very happy. It’s sad for us that he is gone. Carry him in your heart. You have our sympathy.
