Robert “Slim” Burns, born July 13, 1951, to Donald and Bonnie Burns in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Slim passed away from medical complications that led to heart failure April 21, 2025.

After graduating from high school in Thermopolis WY, he had gone to Montana to report for military duty and was rejected for a broken arm. On the way back, he talked the bus driver into stopping in Sheridan, Wyoming, and this is where he called home. He graduated from Sheridan College on May 18, 1973.

Slim worked for Harper’s Dairy, Jersey Creamery, cowboyed and construction for George Fletcher Sr, delivered Coors beer for Metz Beverage, owned and operated Leaky Bucket  Construction, and outside sales for Knechts Home Center.

Slim was a builder. He built houses and other small projects for his customers and family, which are lasting tokens of his love of building things. He built bonds of love with his family  and friends in the Sheridan community by doing small favors for others, with his infectious giggle, and by remaining positive through the roughest of times. Slim built a part of his community through years by serving Christmas meals, by being a board member of the late Country Golf Club, a member of the Sheridan Recreation Department, a member of the Sheridan Community Build, and as well known good sportsmanship participant in local softball, volleyball, basketball, bowling, pool, and of course his love for golf. He built a close-knit group of family and friends who will love him always and forever. His Grand kids will always think of Grandpa and their golf outings together.

Slim met Rose through a mutual friend in 1991 and married in 1994. He adopted Rose’s Son, Felipe “Phillip” Villegas in January of 1997 who took Slim’s last name. The two men adored each other, and together the three of them made a family of undying love.

Slim is survived by his loving wife Rose, his Son Phillip (Alison) Burns, Grandsons Brooks and Beckett of Raleigh NC. Sister Lorena (Tor) Bortz of Burlington VT, Sister Norleen Fleming of Winslow ME and nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Richard Burns, Pat and Chuck Duncan.

We are blessed with so many friends. Thank you and we love you. Thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Sheridan Memorial and Billings Clinic.

Please join us Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Elks Lodge from 2-5 PM for a celebration of Slims life.

When I moved to Wyoming, to be with my future husband, Slim was the first person that showed me the Big Horn Mountains, we didn’t have a car and he took us up in his van.!! He and my husband, Jack, played basketball together for the Generals. Slim, Jack, and Coach Hoffman are now together again.
