Margaret Campbell

Margaret Louise (Peg) Stouffer Campbell passed away quietly at her home on May 15, 2020. Born November 25, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio to William E. Stouffer and Rika Wilmink Stouffer, she spent her early years in Ohio, moving to Galesburg, Illinois in Jr. High. Peg graduated valedictorian of her high school class and went on to attend Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and Pi Beta Phi, graduating Magna Cum Laude and valedictorian in 1951.

Peg accepted a teaching position in Newcastle WY in the fall of 1951 where she met and married O. Ross Campbell on July 22, 1952. They moved to Sheridan in 1953, when Ross purchased the Orpheum Theatre. Peg continued her teaching career at Kooi and Woodland Park schools while starting her family.

Peg was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry, Altar Guild, St. Margaret’s Guild; using her artistic talents to create themed decorations for the annual bazaar. She served as representative to the Diocesan and National conventions.

She was a 63-year member of Chapter “B” PEO and a member of Sheridan Fine Arts Guild. Peg served on the boards of The Dog and Cat Shelter, The Salvation Army, and the Genesis Foundation for many years. In 2011, she was the honored recipient of the Salvation Army’s Others Award.

She was preceded in death by her parents and in 2002, her husband of 50 years. She is survived by her sister Joan Tompkins of Sheridan, children Ross “Steve” Campbell of Las Vegas Nevada, Sarah “Sally” Eaton, Margaret “Meg” Campbell, Bill (Kelli) Campbell, and Joe (Brandy) Campbell, all of Sheridan, Wyoming. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Andrew (Christina) Eaton, Aaron, Katie, Zach, and Sarah Campbell, Sheridan, and Kaylin McKinley, along with 2 great-grandchildren Anthony and Ashton Eaton and several nephews, a niece and great-niece and nephews.

There will be a private family interment at St. Peter’s columbarium with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 150 S. Tschirgi St. Sheridan, WY or The Dog and Cat Shelter of Sheridan Wyoming, 84 E Ridge Rd. Sheridan, WY.
