Rodney Robert McCloy, passed away from cancer on July 25, 2024, in Billings, Montana.

Rodney Robert McCloy, born on August 14, 1947, to Robert Elmo and Evelyn Lois Madsen McCloy, in Glendive, Montana.

Raised the third of seven boys and one girl, Rod learned at a young age the art of leadership and hard work. Soon after graduating from Circle High, Rod served in the National Guard and then began a career in coal exploration which took him through most western states. When coal exploration ended, he began the next career as a manager for Pepsi in Sheridan, Wyoming. After his children, Clarisa and Dillon, were born, he chose to move to the ranch at Pompeys Pillar. His development of springs and wells on the property was a great achievement. Through the years of wild land fires, school events, cattle/bull sales, many lifetime friends and memories were made. Rod enjoyed seeing all the wildlife, i.e., elk, deer, mountain lions and all others. Many lifetime friendships were made with hunters that visited the ranch.

Rod was a rock hound and could spot a picture agate from a long way away. One of his greatest finds weighed 15 pounds.

Rod is survived by his children; daughter Clarisa (Jeff) Fluker and granddaughter Quora Fluker as well as son Dillon (Brigitte) McCloy, brothers; David (Rachel), Richard, Pat (Colleen) and Bill (Cheryl), sister; Mary (Randy), as well as nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Ray and Tim.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. on August 6, 2024, in the Elks section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Sheridan Elks Lodge, 45 W. Brundage St., Sheridan, WY.
