Carla June Dickson passed away peacefully in Sheridan, WY on the evening of June 24, 2024, at the age of 77.

Carla was born on June 19, 1947, to Carl and Mae Price (Kiel) in Walsenburg, Colorado. She grew up in Walsenburg and graduated from Walsenburg High School in 1965.  She married Robert Nickens on August 6, 1966. The couple lived in Walsenburg and Denver until moving to Sheridan, WY in 1974 where they designed and built their “house on the hill” in Sheridan.  Robert and Carla were married for 30 years.

They had two sons and one daughter. Bruce was born in Denver, Colorado on January 18, 1967. Baby Boy Nickens, passing on his date of birth, was born on January 25, 1970, and Tracy Buckler-Tyree was also born in Denver on December 27, 1970.

Carla worked at SCSD2 as a cook at Linden Elementary and Sheridan High School. She enjoyed traveling, collecting bears, and her dogs (Envy and Harvey). Carla grew up having pet birds in her home in Walsenburg.  She often flew to Kansas in her father’s two-seater airplane while sitting on a milk crate behind the seats.

Carla was a very crafty person. She sewed and loved teaching her granddaughters to sew as well.  She used a spinning wheel to spin her own yarn and loved to crochet and knit.  She made many blankets throughout the years to give away. She also taught herself how to play the piano and enjoyed tending to her flowers, especially her roses.

In July of 2007, Carla married Chester Dickson, Sr. in Sheridan, WY.  They enjoyed playing cards with many of their friends, eating out, and attending her granddaughters’ soccer games. Carla is survived by her son, Bruce Nickens, her daughter Tracy Buckler-Tyree (Troy), her grandchildren Brittney Buckler and Amanda Trampe (Matai), and numerous nieces and nephews. Her two granddaughters, Brittney and Amanda, were her pride and joy and she spent as much time as she could with them both.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Nickens, and Chet Dickson, Sr., and, as the youngest of four children, all of her siblings, including her sisters, Charlene Demski and Joan Zinko, and her brother, Robert Price. They are together again with the Lord. A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Bethesda Worship Center with Pastor Scott Lee officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Champion Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements. Online condolences may be written at www.championfh.com.
