Vonnie L. Meyers passed away on January 14, 2023, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Vonnie was born in Gretna, Nebraska on December 28, 1938, to Lyle and Meta (Progren) Shipley. She moved to Sidney, Nebraska when she was seventeen which led to her meeting Joe L. Meyers and they were married on December 12, 1957, in Fort Morgan, Colorado. They started their family with twin sons and resided there for ten years moving to Gillette, Wyoming, and welcoming a daughter. In 1979 they moved to Sheridan, Wyoming where together they opened and operated Custom Mufflers & Accessories from August 1979 to December 1998. After retiring they spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona until recently.
Vonnie enjoyed all their friends immensely over the years on various adventures from large get-togethers, camping, motorcycle trips, snowmobiling, etc. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her strength, devotion to her family and friends, and her spark for life. She fought a lengthy battle with her heart and lung issues and is now free to go dance.
Vonnie survived her two sons Dean (Shelly) and Dennis (Debbie) Meyers from Gillette, Wyoming. A daughter, Diana (Tom) Riesen of Sheridan. Her grandchildren: Dustin (Ashlie) Meyers, Cody (Chelsea) Meyers, Tashina Meyers, Dani (Dan) Smith, Josh Robinson, Tyler Riesen and Lane Riesen. Her great-grandchildren: Zack and Zane Meyers, Paiton and Paxton Christopherson, Cash, Cooper, and Charli Meyers, and Rhett, Reese, and Ryan Meyers. She is preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents, her stepfather Robert McDonald, her stepmother Florence Shipley, a brother Melvin Shipley, her grandson, Michael Dean Meyers, and her husband of 66 years, Joe.
Vonnie wants to thank the staff at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for the loving care provided to her and Joe over the years and during this last month. Dr. Gilbert, Dr. Redinger, Jennifer Graslie, Diana Charlson, Sam, Rachel, Kayla, and Vida. This is an endless list of so many healthcare professionals who touched their lives and their families’ lives, your loving care will be remembered and appreciated.
A Celebration of Lives for Vonnie and Joe Meyers will be held to honor their memory on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 1 to 3 pm at Kane Funeral Home.
