Roy Powers

Roy Lee Powers was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on February 21, 1936, to Charles and Lucille Powers. He passed away on December 26, 2023, in Sheridan, Wyoming at the age of 87.

He started as a Laborer with Peter Kiewit Sons in 1952 and boot-strapped his way up, becoming a foreman in 1961. By that time, he had been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces and had graduated from the University of Wyoming on May 30, 1960, with a bachelor of science degree in general engineering.

Within a short time, he was assigned as Assistant Plant Superintendent in the Quarries Area, where he supervised drill-and-shoot, maintenance, specifications, and customer assistance. By 1986, he was promoted to Sheridan District Manager. In that capacity, he guided the bidding, building, and overall management of construction projects throughout Wyoming, Montana, and North and South Dakota, as well as the quarry operations in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.

He married his school sweetheart Marcia Masters on November 23, 1981, at the United Presbyterian Church in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Following his retirement in 1991 he and his wife built their dream home at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. He eagerly took up farming and tended to his crops with perfection. He took great pride in his crop production and irrigation of the 40-plus acres. He loved his family and his 3 kitties. He was proud to help with his grandchildren’s projects and schoolwork.

Roy was preceded in death by his father Charles and mother Lucille. Roy is survived by his wife Marcia Powers of Dayton, WY, brother Chuck & wife Carol Powers of Great Falls, Montana, daughter Caroline Powers of California & son Nicholas Powers of Boise Idaho, step-daughter Dawn Kramer of Dayton, WY, stepdaughter Kristi and husband Darrell Petersen of Riverton, WY, grandson Austin Petersen and wife Abigail Petersen of Riverton, WY, granddaughter Brandi Petersen of Casper, WY, and great-grandson Vaughn Petersen of Riverton, WY. In place of flowers, a memorial contribution in Roy’s name may be made to Wyoming Stock Growers Association,113 E 20th St, Cheyenne, WY 82001.     One of the nicest guys I’ve ever known. His humor and her dry wit was interesting. Was Roy and Marcia’s pharmacist for many years. I will always think of them fondly.
