Thomas Wesley Stevie, resident of Sheridan Wyoming, formerly Pinedale, passed away on September 24, 2023, at home at the age of 79.

Tom was born in Alaska to Thomas and Phyllis Stevie on September 9, 1944. At the age of 19, he started his career in law enforcement as a deputy in Sublette County, and then as an officer in Sheridan County. From 1963-1988, Tom served 35 years between the two agencies. During this time Tom enjoyed helping to be a part of and helping build the Sheridan PD’s K9 program. He was also an occasional guest speaker at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, worked for the High Department, and was a deputy coroner.

Tom had enjoyed old gospel music until the end, he loved to study his Bible and had a strong relationship with God. He enjoyed watching old Western movies. Tom loved to challenge himself by learning new things. Once he mastered the craft he would move on to the next, literally a Jack of all trades. He enjoyed leather working, making belts, and saddles. He did some work as a taxidermist and made his own whistles that he would use to communicate with his dogs while sheepherding. His dogs were his passion and kept him young at heart. He participated in dog trials with sheepherding as well as raising and training border collies for sheepherding. Tom was a man of few words unless something was important to him. Tom also enjoyed working with the kids involved in 4H and the participants of the Special Olympics. There was never a time in Tom’s house that the coffee was not on, and sweets weren’t on the counter somewhere for all to enjoy.

Tom is survived by his children Todd (Beverly) Stevie, Michael (Allison) Stevie, Devon (Kayla) Oswald, and Piper Stevie (Reno Skinner, fiancé) and multiple grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Stevie and father Thomas Stevie, as well as many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Bethesda Worship Center in Sheridan, WY. There will be a reception following in honor of Tom’s sweet tooth and love for coffee.

Memorials to honor Tom can be made to Sheridan County 4-H,1090 Dome Loop, Sheridan, WY, 82801, Wyoming Special Olympics at 239 W 1st St., Casper, WY, 82601 or at www.specialolympics.org,   CHAPS Equine Assisted Services, 501 US Highway 14 E, Sheridan, WY, 82801.
