Melroy “Mel” Daniel Hoff was called Home Saturday, April 8, 2023.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan, WY with a viewing at 1:00 and memorial service at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be April 17 at 11:00 A.M. with military honors at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Mel was born May 19, 1948, to Daniel and Ruth (Joachim). He grew up on the family farm near Eureka, SD which instilled a life-long love for working the land. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served in combat in Vietnam with the 86th and 595th Engineer Battalions, and in Germany with the 82nd Engineer Battalion, until honorably discharged in 1969.
He married Vicky Fauth on August 16, 1970, and in 1979, moved his family to Wyoming where he found work in the construction and mining industry. “Dr. Dirt” retired from Cordero-Rojo Mine in 2013 and spent his leisure time prospecting, rock-hounding, and participating in antique tractor pulls. For the past 30 years, Mel and Vicky lived in Story, WY. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, and the NRA.
Mel is survived by his loving wife, Vicky, children; Jennifer (Navar) Holmes, Nick (Julie) Hoff, and Becky (Justin) Dike; and grandchildren; Christopher, Jaremy, Maggie, and Jarrett. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Leroy.
Mel was a good man. His witty sense of humor and kindheartedness will not be forgotten. In his honor, please consider donating to Samaritan’s Purse or The Gideons International.

Was Mel and Vicky’s pharmacist. Will miss seeing Mel at Cowboy Church. Peace be upon you, Vicky.
