A high school All-American wrestler from Sheridan High School has seen the Northern Lights.
Kolten Powers has signed his letter of intent (LOI) to wrestle at Montana State Northern, located in Havre.
He is last year’s 4A 120 lbs. state runner-up, and placed 4th in the 113 lbs. weight class amongst juniors, at the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) folk-style wrestling National Championship Tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia, which is where he won the All-American honor.
Powers explains why he likes the sport so much and that it’s better now that his wrestling future is taken care of.
“I think it’s going out there and fighting with another person with rules, but it’s just competing. Whose got more skills, strength, endurance. It feels good that I don’t have to worry about the rest of the season and trying to impress coaches or something and I just have a plan to go to Northern and wrestle.”
Powers adds he had also been contacted by the Virginia Military Institute and the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.
While at MSU-Northern, he is considering majoring in business and electrical.
