An inmate who was convicted by a jury in Buffalo of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman more than 20 years ago has died.
The Wyoming Department of Corrections reports that 62-year old Dale Dean died on Thursday (February 10th) at the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County.
A jury in Buffalo convicted him of one count of kidnapping, one count of first degree sexual assault and 2 counts of third degree sexual assault.
In July 2001, Dean kidnapped the female victim at gunpoint in Gillette, then drove her to Buffalo and along the way he sexually assaulted her.
When they arrived at a Buffalo restaurant, the victim notified a waitress, who contacted law enforcement.
Dean was arrested a short time later.
He was convicted by a jury in February 2002, and was sentenced in April to 45-50 years in prison.
Per WDOC policy an autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.
