Barry Crago, State Representative for House District 40, discussed redistricting with the Buffalo City Council at their meeting Tuesday, saying his constituents in Sheridan and Johnson Counties should keep a watchful eye on the process during the upcoming legislative session.

State districts are redrawn every 10 years after the US census, to encompass roughly equal population numbers.

Currently, Johnson County has one district, with a portion of Sheridan County as part of the district.

Crago talked about the possible redistricting, that could affect both counties.

Crago said there are other plans being considered where Johnson County would be “in the bullseye” in those discussions, which could split the county and add the areas to other county districts in neighboring counties like Sheridan, Campbell, Natrona, or even Washakie.

He said he would not like to see that happen, but if at the end of the day the people are being represented, and fairly, he wouldn’t oppose the change.

He said he wanted everyone in the region to be aware of the possible change and to pay attention to the process.
