Ron RichterA change of plea hearing in Federal District Court in Wyoming was recently held for 35-year-old Adam Lee Godwin of Sheridan. Godwin, at a recent hearing before Federal District Court Judge Nancy Freudenthal, pleaded guilty to being an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. The charges carry a possible sentence of five to 50 years in prison and fines of up to $5 million.
In early August, a motion to dismiss without prejudice was granted in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. At the hearing, Sheridan County Attorney Dianna Bennett said she filed the motion to dismiss without prejudice at the request of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms. Bennett said the ATF wanted the case dismissed as they intended to pursue the case because a firearm was involved and Godwin is a convicted felon. Godwin was sentenced to 3 to 5 years in prison in May for a burglary charge.
