cvannoyThe Clearmont Town Council met Monday, October 18, with all members but John Kiser, as well as three guests present. Guests were Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office deputy Ryan Kerns; Angela Jones and Jennifer Reed of Pilch and Reed, CPA’s in Sheridan. The town is considering hiring the firm to help with the town’s accounting.
“The value of having them do all the books is that they are all done right.” Clerk Vineyard told the council.
“It’s important to do the accounting right,” Mayor Rohrer said.
The town agreed it would be helpful if the accountants came down to the town hall one day and looked over what they would be responsible for and let the council know what they would charge. Councilman Poppenga said it was worth looking into.
Mayor Rohrer reported on the water tank project, which is almost finished, but he urged the community to be patience a little longer, and continue to conserve water. “There are still steps that need done,” he told the council. “The welders need to come back in and then we have to flush, clean and sanitize the lines. But it should be done by the end of October. There will be one day when the water will be shut off again, but we are just about there.”
He also told the council the Clearmont Historical Group met earlier in the day, and he reported on some of their upcoming programs. On Oct. 22, there will be a program about the Sunnybrook Cemetery in Clearmont, followed by a walk around the small graveyard. The program will start at 7 p.m. at the Clearmont Historical Center on Main Street.
The Historical Center will have candy for those trick or treating on Halloween, and the Center is featuring a local artist and their work each month.
He also mentioned that Ira Roadifer of the Clearmont Historical Group made him aware of a radio play titled Powder River, that is running on PBS stations. The radio play is an old west drama that takes place in Clearmont and on the Powder River. Roadifer said some people came to the Historical Center last summer because they had listened to the program, and came to see Clearmont. Powder River is available on CD’s at the Johnson County Library.
Rohrer also mentioned the Shop Hop coming up November 5th and 6th, and the Veterans Day program coming up in November.
At the end of the meeting, Clerk Amy Vineyard handed in a letter of resignation, saying she felt that she was not doing a good job for the town, and that they would have to find someone else who could do a better job.
Also on the agenda was finding someone to help out with maintenance during November and December while John Kiser, maintenance man, is out with back surgery. Vineyard will post the part-time job in the Post Office, and anyone who might be interested can contact the town hall.
Next meeting will be Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.
