A fire burning in the Big Horn National Forest has tripled in size in the last 10 days.
As of 8am Sunday, August 22nd, the Crater Ridge Fire (30 miles east-northeast of Lovell) has burned more than 6,100 acres and is 30% contained.
Due to its erratic nature, the fire has recently spread in multiple directions.
On the northwest side, the fire has carved a path through the Pumpkin Creek burn scar area, which was on fire back in 1970, and is moving closer to the Montana border line.
On the east side, firefighters are trying to hold the fire at Boyd Ridge.
Smoke, rain, snow and heavy fog in the area has made it difficult for firefighters to not only get to the fire, but to scout for locations to create direct and indirect containment lines.
