Fire crews battling two fires that had been threatening various towns on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana, are winning the battle.

As of 9am Wednesday (July 18th), the Richard Spring fire has burned more than 170,000 acres of land and is 75% contained.

As for the Lame Deer fire, that one has burned more than 5,400 acres and is also 75% contained.

Both fires have not grown much in the past few days, which has enabled firefighters to make progress on building containment lines.

US Highway 212 between Broadus and Crow Agency is now open, but motorists are advised to stay away from the fire areas, for the safety of the fire crews.
