Residents from the second of two towns that had been evacuated ahead of two wildland fires, have been allowed to return home, provided they don’t have a medical condition.
Lame Deer area residents were allowed to return home Sunday (August 15th), but like those in Ashland, they need to be on standby in case they have to evacuate again.
As of 9am on Sunday, August 15th, the Richard Spring Fire has burned more than 170,000 acres of land, and is 60% contained.
The Lame Deer Fire has burned more than 5,400 acres and is 50% contained.
The National Weather Service in Billings, MT has issued a red flag warning for most of eastern Montana for all day Sunday and Monday.
This means fire crews will have to be on the lookout for more spot fires in the area.
A cold front is expected to push through the area on Tuesday night, bringing a 60% chance of precipitation to the area.
High temperatures Monday and Tuesday are forecasted to be in the high 90’s and low 100’s, and then drop to the mid 60’s on Wednesday.
US Highway 212 is still closed between Broadus and Crow Agency to non-residents.
