Fire crews battling two fires on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana have determined the same cause for both blazes and have made progress on containment.
Investigators say an underground coal seam fire is to blame.
Those types of fires usually start underground due to smoldering combustion.
As of 9am Saturday, August 14th, the Richard Spring Fire has burned more than 170,000 acres of land, and is 53% contained.
The Lame Deer fire has burned more than 5,400 acres and is 46% contained.
A public meeting has been scheduled for 6pm Saturday, August 14th at the Littlewolf Capitol Building in Lame Deer.
US Highway 212 is still closed between Broadus and Crow Agency to non-residents.

So, my take away is that fossil fuels are going to burn even if humans do not initiate the burning. Maybe Earth doesn’t know about the “green” movement!
