Reclamation work that’s being done at the site of the old Acme Power Plant has been noticed by a national group.

The Sheridan County Conservation District has been selected to speak about the work at the National Brownfields Training Conference in December.

The Conference, which will take place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is the largest gathering in the country of stakeholders focused on cleaning up and reusing former industrial properties.

District Manager Carrie Rogaczewski says the invitation is a testament to how important the partnerships for the projects are.

“The part that’s being highlighted now is that even small groups in small communities can make projects like this happen certainly as they work together and share resources and combine efforts.”

Currently the district is working on removing and/or salvaging debris at the power plant.

The Board of Supervisors has also submitted an EPA Cleanup Grant Proposal of $500,000, to clean up asbestos within the building, regardless if the building is reused or not.
