According to a May 2020 survey from the RV Industry Association, over 46,000,000 Americans plan to go RVing in 2021.

Many Wyoming Recreational Vehicle trailer users store their trailers during the winter. To save water lines, air conditioning and heating units the RVs are drained and prepped for winter storage.

With the summer camping season just around the corner, Wyoming Highway Patrol Lieutenant Erik Jorgensen gave listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse some tips to ensure their camp trailers are prepped and ready for a fun and safe adventure.

Tire hub bearings should be greased every 10,000 miles or at least once a year.

Tires are vital to the experience, check that they and any spare tires are in good condition.

Check the exterior of the trailer. Ensure the Wyoming wind has not loosened paneling that can be further damaged during the drive.

Along with ensuring the trailer hitch and ball size are correct, check the condition of the trailer safety chains. Owners should check the condition of wiring and that all safety and travel lights are in good working order.

If battery units were removed for the winter, ensure they are charged and cables are free of cracks and corrosion.

Water systems should be flushed and sanitized. While performing this task, check for leaking pipes and dripping faucets.

Check propane hoses and ensure any heating units, stove tops and ovens are in good working order. If hoses are showing wear or cracked, it’s time to replace them. Ensure propane tanks and connections are free of rust and debris.

If the trailer has an air conditioning unit, check that it is in good working order and that vents are open and free of debris.

By following these steps, trailer owners will mitigate risk and have more time to enjoy any adventure.
