Wyoming Department of Corrections gives COVID-19 update

The Wyoming Department of Corrections has released a COVID-19 update on the number of positive active cases found in the facilities. 

As of Friday May 7, the number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases identified in routine surveillance samplings conducted during the previous week was one case, identified in an inmate incarcerated in the Wyoming State Penitentiary located in Rawlins. 

The WDOC operates five facilities in the Cowboy State, Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution located in Torrington, the Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton, the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp in Newcastle and the Wyoming Women’s Center located in Lusk.

There were no cases found among the staff at any of the WDOC facilities. 

According to the WDOC, working with the Wyoming Department of Health, all positive inmate cases are medically monitored and managed by the Department and health care provider (Corizon Health, Inc.) in accordance with CDC guidelines. The Department continues to conduct rigorous surveillance testing at all sites as necessary and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

The department reports three inmate deaths to date have been attributed to COVID-19.
