The old SHOPKO building in Buffalo has been sold, and will become a Bomgaars store, according to former building owner Kim Love, who also said the closing on the sale was finalized Wednesday.

Bomgaars, according to their website, is a family owned and operated supplier with 94 stores in Iowa, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wyoming, employing approximately 2400 people.

The corporate office and distribution center are located in Sioux City, Iowa, where the company began in 1952.

Their stores stock over 60,000 items in 13 major departments, including Lawn and Garden, Nursery, Clothing and Footwear, Farm, Pet and Automotive supplies, Paint, Hardware, Tools, Housewares, and Toys.

Mayor Shane Schrader said the new retail store will a welcome boost the local economy.

Mayor Schrader said the new retail store will also boost shoppers on the west end of town, which is also good news.

The building purchased this week has been empty since 2019 when the SHOPKO corporate office closed all of its stores after filing bankruptcy.

More information on the schedule for the opening of the store will be coming in a future story.

I hope they are better to their employees than the private equity pirates like SHOPKO.
