SPD Use of Force Numbers for 2025
Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the SPD’s Use of Force numbers for the 2025 year.
According to the Captain, SPD officers made 462 custodial arrests resulting from investigations and 275 arrests on warrants in 2025. Officers also issued 783 summons, conducted 5,685 traffic stops and responded to 10,663 calls for service throughout the year.
Use of force incidents remained limited in number compared to overall activity levels. Officers employed empty-hand techniques five times in 2025, deployed O.C. (pepper) spray twice and fully deployed a Taser cartridge once. Taser drive stuns were used three times. Officers did not use baton strikes in 2025 and did not employ deadly force during the year.
Ringley reports that two use of force incidents resulted in officer injuries, though none rose above the level of abrasions, sprains or bruises. No suspects sustained injuries beyond abrasions, sprains or bruises in 2025.
Ringley emphasized that officers are authorized to use only the amount of force that is objectively reasonable based on the facts and circumstances confronting them and that no SPD officer is permitted to use unreasonable or excessive force. Any use of force above the use of handcuffs is investigated by patrol sergeants and lieutenants and reviewed by the Captain.
Ringley said no incident concerning the use of force is too small to investigate and urged the community to report any violations they feel may have been committed during their interaction with the SPD.

Ringley has also encouraged the public to review the Use of Force section in the Sheridan Police Department annual report. While the 2025 annual report is still being compiled, use of force numbers for the year are available upon request.
