There were several recognitions at the Monday, Jan. 12 SCSD#2 Board meeting. One was coach Jeff Mowry, who was honored as 4A Football Coach of the Year.

Activities director Kasey Garnhart had this to say about Mowry and the SHS Broncs Football teams winning seasons.

Coach Mowry recognized Beck Haswell, the 2025 Wyoming Gatorade Football Player of the Year.

Also honored at the meeting were Assistant Football Coach of the Year, Bob Hanchett; Tennis Coach of the Year, Scott Dickey and 4A Cross Country Boys’ Coach of the Year, Art Baures.

Many of the SHS Fall Drama students attended the meeting, and were introduced by teachers Grace Cannon, & Melissa Suchor; Ryan Walker, Chad Rose and Ashley Lecholat introduced the All-State Music students, and Karen Wagner, SHS Social Studies teacher, talked about the We The People State Championship team.

Several policies were approved on first and second readings, and Troy Decker, Director of Facilities, reported that Woodland Park School needs some extensive repairs. The building was constructed in 2009, and he said that four years ago it became apparent that some of the tiles were starting to pull away from the building. He said that they hired an architect to research the problem, and he reported that the panels had been installed incorrectly at the time.

He said they approached the manufacturer,

Decker presented several bids received for the replacement of the tiles, and the low bid was a Colorado firm with a bid of Summit Sealants, for a bid of 1,222,831.57. He urged the board to accept the bid.

After much discussion, the board voted to table the vote to approve the bid until they could discuss it more with the school’s legal representative to see if they had any other options with the original contractor or manufacturer.

He added that the dust collector at SHS also needs to be replaced, and the board voted to approve to replace the dust collector.

In other business, Superintendent Scott Stults gave an update on the legislature and the re-calibration, and how it might affect the funding for Sheridan County Schools but that will be addressed in another story.
