SCSD#2 Board of Trustees Discusses Budget

The SCSD#2 Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting on Monday, November 3.

In recognitions, Activities Director Casey Garnhart introduced the SHS 4A Boys’ Cross Country State Champions and their coaches Art Baures, who was named 4A East Boys Cross County Coach of the Year, and Assistant Coach Liz Moore. He said that under their leadership, this program has consistently been at the forefront of competition throughout their season. They were undefeated against all Wyoming competition.

Baures introduced the team members who attended the meeting.

He added that there is one senior on the team, and he is confident that the rest of the team will be back next year.

In his report, Superintendent Scott Stults talked about the school funding, and a budget amendment that he hoped the board would approve. He said that a short fall has been felt by the school district due to the property tax reduction. He did say that if the county does not make the projected revenue, the state then steps in and pays the difference between what the school needs, and what the county funds.

The state helps, Scott said,

Business manager Brandon Finney talked about the budget amendment, and Trustee Shelta Rambur asked for clarification about the bonus. She and Finney had this exchange.

The board voted to approve the budget amendment.

In other business, the board approved the appointment of Brandon Finney, SHS business manager, who has been asked to serve on the Wyoming Government Investment Fund Board.

Finney explained.

There was a lengthy discussion on policy IJL, the ‘Library Materials and Access’ policy.

One community member, Melinda Evans, addressed the board on the policy. She felt the policy was somewhat vague.

The board voted to table the policy until the policy committee could discuss it again.

At the end of the meeting, the principals of each of the elementary schools shared their school improvement plans.

There will be a Legislative Roundtable on November 17, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Central Office, at 201 N. Connor.

Next board meeting will be held on December 8 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office.
