Stults Honored as Wyoming Superintendent of the Year

At the Monday, May 5, SCSD#2 Board meeting, there were several recognitions, including SCSD#2 Superintendent Scott Stults, who has been named as 2026 Wyoming Superintendent of the Year. Board Chair Shane Rader talked about Stults.

Rader explained how the superintendent of the year was selected. He said that Wyoming is divided into four regions, and each region selects their superintendent of the year, and the superintendents collectively select the state recipient. He had seen Stults interact with the other superintendents throughout the state.

Stults gave credit to his team members for the award.

“All of this is truly an effort that is awarded to all of us, because we work here for the same sole reason, our kids.” Stults said.

SCSD#2 Traci Turk Special Education Director was also honored as 2025 Wyoming Special Education Director of the Year,

Stults presented the award to Turk.

Turk said she was thankful for all the opportunities she has had. She thanked her husband and daughter for their support, and added,

Henry A. Coffeen Elementary gave a presentation about their school, and many of the elementary students came to the board meeting to give their presentation, led by Paige Sanders, Principal.

In other recognitions, Sagebrush Elementary Principal Justin Rohrer acknowledged the District Classified Staff of the Year, Kristen Mattix, Sagebrush Elementary Paraprofessional. Mattix is also retiring this year, having been at Sagebrush for 26 years. He also talked about the District Teacher of the Year, Erica Jensen, also of Sagebrush Elementary.

Activities Director Kasey Garnhart gave the winter sports update, saying that 17 seniors had signed with colleges this year.

SCSD#2 Pricipal Scott Cleland introduced National Merit Semifinalists, Mathew Brown, Lorenzo Cherry, Nicholas Matheney, Lincoln Robbins, and Gavin Toth as well as the Daniels Fund Scholars, Hannah Hodnet and Delenn Layher.

Myiah Bengston introduced the National Qualifier Speech and Debate, Nicholas Matheney. Christy Andersen one of SHS CTE teachers, talked about the Wyoming State ProStart Competition, and the SHS students who took home awards there. First in Cake Decorating, Morgandy Straight and Ashlee Weber; First in Bread Baking, Lexa Voldberg, Anaya Simmons, and Kenna Aurand.

Heidi Richins, of the SkillsUSA, announced that several SHS students won State Champions, Zander Cleland and Shaw Walker, Additive Manufacturing and Brody Leerssen, Cabinet Making.

SHS History Teacher Michael Thomas recognized the Unit 1 winners in the National “We The People” competition recently in Washington, D.C., Nicholas Matheney, Lincoln Robbins and Rachel Keegan.
